S&D Group’s Lac Cultivation Project blends traditional wisdom with scientific practices to restore Purulia’s legacy as a premier lac-producing region. Our mission is to uplift thousands of rural and tribal families, promote eco-friendly income generation, and build a strong, self-reliant rural economy.
S&D Group has engaged over 5,000 rural families in lac cultivation and processing, revived more than 25 lac processing units, protected and planted around 200,000 host trees, ensured at least 30% women participation with active youth leadership, and aims to increase average household incomes by 30–40%.

The Lac Cultivation Initiative by S&D Group aims to revive traditional lac farming in Purulia, West Bengal, empowering tribal and marginal farmers through skill development, cluster-based support, and modern processing infrastructure.
Tribal and marginal farmers, women, and youth from Purulia can participate. The project organizes farmers into clusters and SHGs/cooperatives, providing training and market linkages.
